10 Stylish Fall Porch Decor Ideas to Try This Fall

It’s easy to sip a hot cup of coffee and enjoy the view on your front porch, and a cozy and beautifully decorated fall porch will make your fall months even more memorable. Fall porch decorations are essential for setting the mood between greeting trick-or-treaters during Halloween and greeting guests at dinner parties and Thanksgiving dinners.

That’s why we took it upon ourselves to make autumn at home as cozy and relaxing as possible – of course, without compromising on aesthetics and style. Below, we’ve rounded up plenty of fall porch decorating ideas, plus expert tips and ideas from interior designers and decorators.

1. Hay Porch Decor

Fall is one of the most popular seasons for decorating your home’s front door with harvest-inspired items, so along with traditional fall elements like pumpkins, treat other farmsteads like a few bales of hay. These fall-focused pieces can serve a dual purpose as unique decorations to further enhance the space and as additional outdoor seating for guests. However, be sure to add a waterproof blanket and some pillows to the hay before giving it to guests as a seat – hay can retain moisture and be quite scratchy.

4. Pumpkin Arrangement

Are you thinking about adding a few pumpkins to your fall porch? Try varying the shape and size for more visual interest, suggests Beth Halpern Brown, founder and interior designer of Beth Brown Interiors. “Adding different sized pumpkins is also a great idea instead of carved pumpkins, since they don’t rot and can last all season if you like,” Brown explains.

5. Hang Leaf Garlands

People often associate leaf wreaths with winter holidays such as Christmas, but they can also be used in the fall to add visually appealing texture and interest to porches and doorways. “A beautiful leaf wreath arrangement on the door creates a truly welcoming entryway for both residents and guests, creating a feeling of coziness, warmth and welcome,” says Brown.

6. Small Gourd Accents

“My best idea for a fall porch is to use very small pumpkins for decoration,” suggests Jeremy Yamaguchi, CEO of Lawn Love. “Pumpkins obviously fit into the fall spirit, but I prefer hard-skinned pumpkins.” According to Yamaguchi, very small decorative pumpkins will rot more slowly—and hard-skinned pumpkins are especially good for this. You can even hollow them out and use them to make bowls.

7. Create a Cozy Coffee Nook

Who doesn’t dream of drinking a steaming cup of coffee while enjoying the fresh air and falling leaves? A cozy little coffee nook will quickly become your favorite spot in the house, and all you really need is a comfortable, waterproof bistro-style table and a few chairs. When it’s cool, place a blanket just outside the door so it’s easy to reach.

8. Black and Gold Fall Porch Decor

Of course, using natural elements is a great and cost-effective way to freshen up your porch in the fall, but you don’t have to stick with that color palette. Spray decorative spray paint in black, white and yellow to add a little warmth. “This season brings rich, warm tones, and I recommend reflecting that in your decor,” shares Kathy Kuo, founder of Kathy Kuo Homes.

9. Get a Little Spooky

Halloween decorations fall into a whole different subcategory, but there’s nothing wrong with welcoming a little subtle spookiness this season. A subtle nod to Halloween can look surprisingly sophisticated when done with a modern finish such as monochrome or black and white.

10. Hang Paper Bats

There is Halloween decor that is only appropriate until October 31st, and there is spooky decor that is appropriate all fall. Cut out some paper bats and glue them to the door frame using tape or fishing line. (If your awnings are small and you don’t want to remodel them in bad weather, buy artificial awnings online.)
